Whip Around
What is Whip Around?
Whip Around started as a digital vehicle inspection and DVIR compliance tool and has grown into a fleet maintenance system. The inspection side is the core: drivers complete forms on a phone, defects raise automatically, and managers see what failed and when. The maintenance side — preventative schedules, work orders, parts and service history — sits on the upper tier.
That ordering is the opposite of Fleetio, where maintenance is the spine at every tier and automations are what you buy on the way up. A fleet choosing between them is really choosing which problem it has: inspection compliance, or the maintenance record.
How much does Whip Around cost?
Whip Around publishes a full per-asset rate card. Sourced from trial.whiparound.com/pricing.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $0 | — |
| Standard | $5 | — |
| Pro | $10 | — |
Basic is free but capped at one user and one asset, which makes it a trial rather than a fleet plan. Standard and Pro both include unlimited users. Volume pricing applies above 150 assets, which is quote-led.
What do the monthly minimums actually cost?
This is the number that matters most for a small fleet, and it is not the headline rate. Standard carries a $120 monthly minimum and Pro a $220 minimum, each covering the first 20 assets. Below 20 assets a fleet pays the minimum regardless of how few vehicles it runs.
A five-vehicle fleet on Standard therefore pays $120 per month — $24 per vehicle, not $5. On Pro it pays $220, or $44 per vehicle against a $10 headline. The published per-asset rate only becomes the rate a fleet actually pays at 20 assets and above. For comparison, Fleetio applies a five-vehicle minimum rather than a twenty-asset one, so its floor is $20 to $50 per month.
What is the real difference between the tiers?
Maintenance. Basic and Standard cover inspections, defects, reminders, custom forms, dashboards and integrations. Pro is where preventative maintenance schedules, work order management, parts and inventory, cost and time tracking and service history appear — and it is double the Standard rate.
A fleet that wants Whip Around as its maintenance system of record is therefore on the $10 tier, not the $5 one, and comparisons that quote the entry price against a maintenance-first competitor are not comparing the same thing.
Does Whip Around include GPS tracking?
No. Whip Around is software only, with no telematics hardware of its own. A fleet that needs live location, driver behaviour scoring or ELD compliance runs a separate provider such as Geotab, Samsara or Motive alongside it — the same structural position as Fleetio. See the fleet maintenance software hub for the combined-stack arithmetic.
Who is Whip Around best for?
Fleets whose first problem is inspection and DVIR compliance, particularly those with 20 or more assets where the per-asset rate is the real rate. The free Basic plan also makes it unusually easy to evaluate before committing.
It is a weaker fit for a small fleet — under 20 assets the minimums dominate — and for a fleet whose primary need is the maintenance record rather than inspections, since that capability is on the top tier.
What are the alternatives to Whip Around?
Fleetio — maintenance-first with a published per-vehicle rate card and a five-vehicle minimum. AUTOsist — publishes per-vehicle pricing and bundles telematics into its upper tiers. Autograff FleetOS — a fleet operating system that also coordinates repair at outside shops, quoted per fleet. See the fleet maintenance comparison.
