Tekmetric

Tekmetric is cloud-based shop management software for independent and multi-location auto repair shops. Pricing starts at $199 per month month-to-month, or $179 billed annually, and runs to $439 or $409 for the top published tier. Every plan includes unlimited users and unlimited repair orders. The main catch is that two-way texting is only available on the $409 Scale plan.

What is Tekmetric?

Tekmetric is a cloud shop management system covering digital vehicle inspections, estimate building, repair orders, parts and inventory, technician time tracking, invoicing, payments and real-time reporting. It serves independent repair shops and multi-location groups, with add-on modules for tire operations, marketing and multi-shop management.

Does Tekmetric charge per user?

No. Tekmetric prices per shop, not per user or per repair order. Unlimited users, unlimited repair orders and unlimited support are included at every tier, and shop owners control access permissions. Each physical location requires its own plan subscription.

This is the clearest structural difference between Tekmetric and Shopmonkey. A six-person shop pays the same as a one-person shop on Tekmetric; on Shopmonkey the same team costs an additional $20 per licence beyond the three to five included.

What is included at each Tekmetric tier?

  • Start ($179) — digital vehicle inspections, smart jobs, VIN and licence plate decoding, declined job history, inventory and vendor management, parts and labour matrices, workflow notifications, digital authorisations with e-signature, digital invoicing, one-way messaging, financial, employee, customer, parts and DVI reports, 50+ third-party integrations, CARFAX and integrated parts ordering.
  • Grow ($309) adds the Tekmetric labour guide, maintenance schedules, employee job and time clocks, fluid, filter and specification data, and canned job mapping.
  • Scale ($409) adds unlimited two-way texting, advanced real-time reporting, the technician board and employee performance analytics.
  • Enterprise adds integrated payments, a dedicated account manager and quarterly business reviews.

What is the catch with Tekmetric's entry price?

Two-way texting. Start and Grow are one-way messaging only — the shop can send, the customer cannot reply in-thread. Unlimited two-way texting arrives at Scale, $409 annually.

For a shop whose main problem is customer communication, the effective entry price is therefore $409, not $179. That is the single most important thing to establish before comparing Tekmetric to a competitor on headline price: Shopmonkey includes two-way texting on its $215 entry plan and AutoLeap on its $309 plan. Tekmetric's counterbalance is that unlimited digital inspections are included from Start, where Shopmonkey caps Basic at two templates.

What do Tekmetric add-ons cost?

Add-onCost
Marketing — online booking, reminders, campaigns, reviews$345/mo (per shop)
Multi-shop management$70/mo (per shop)
Tire Suite — DOT registration, fitment, in-app ordering$39/mo (per shop)

Each add-on requires a plan subscription for every location. A three-location group on Scale with multi-shop management is $1,437 per month. The Back Office integration and the MotoVisuals integration are also available as add-ons.

Does Tekmetric offer a free trial?

No. Tekmetric offers demos rather than free trials, but publishes self-guided product tours that are accessible without a sales conversation — the closest thing to hands-on evaluation available from a major vendor in this category.

How hard is it to migrate to Tekmetric?

Tekmetric advertises data migration from more than 150 shop management systems, with scope varying by source system. It states that motivated shops can be operational the same day, with complex shops taking longer. Realistically, plan one to two weeks including migration, staff training and a period of parallel running. No long-term contract is required; month-to-month billing is available, with annual billing offered at a discount.

What are Tekmetric's strengths?

The cleanest pricing model in the category — flat per shop, unlimited users, unlimited repair orders, no per-transaction metering. Unlimited digital inspections from the entry tier. Broad migration support at 150+ source systems. US-based support with a monthly release cadence. Publicly accessible self-guided tours, which lowers evaluation friction. Multi-location pricing is the only one of the three majors that can be computed from published information.

What are Tekmetric's limitations?

Two-way texting gated to the top tier is the significant one, and it is not obvious from the pricing page. The marketing add-on at $345 per shop per month is the most expensive marketing module among the three major vendors. Payment processing rates are not published. And no free trial means evaluation depends on demos and self-guided tours rather than running your own shop's data through it.

Who is Tekmetric best for?

Shops with several staff needing simultaneous access, where unlimited users is a real saving, and multi-location owners who want predictable per-shop pricing they can model before a sales call. Less suited to a shop whose primary need is two-way customer texting on a tight budget, where the required tier is more than double the advertised entry price.

What are the alternatives to Tekmetric?

Shopmonkey — $215 to $449, two-way texting at every tier, but metered users and capped inspections on entry. AutoLeap — $179 to $409 plus an unpublished setup fee, with a $99 AI receptionist add-on. Shop-Ware — around $349, aimed at higher-throughput shops. Autograff ShopOS — $90 to $300, unlimited users, no communication tiering, and connects the shop to fleet work. Fullbay — for heavy-duty and diesel. See the 2026 pricing index for worked totals.
