What is Shopmonkey?
Shopmonkey is a cloud shop management system covering estimates, repair orders, digital vehicle inspections, scheduling, customer communication, parts lookup and ordering, invoicing, integrated payments and reporting. It serves general auto repair, tire, heavy-duty truck, wrap and detail, quick lube and marine repair. It is a shop management system, not a repair information system — labour times and procedures come from MOTOR and ALLDATA, which Shopmonkey integrates at upper tiers.
How much does Shopmonkey cost?
Sourced from shopmonkey.io/pricing. Monthly price first, annual price second.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | Users included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $239 | $215 | 3 |
| Clever | $399 | $359 | 4 |
| Genius | $499 | $449 | 5 |
| Multi-Shop | Custom | Custom | Bulk licensing |
Additional user licences are $20 per month each on Basic, Clever and Genius. Multi-Shop is quoted.
What is included in every Shopmonkey plan?
Two-way text and email with unlimited messages, unlimited estimates and invoices, calendar with automated appointment reminders, electronic signatures, digital authorisations, integrated payments including buy-now-pay-later, parts lookup and ordering, a built-in phone number with call forwarding, the iOS and Android app, API and webhooks, and integrations with CARFAX, PartsTech, RepairLink and Nexpart. Reporting is unusually generous at the entry tier: over 30 built-in reports including sales and profitability, ARO, service writer and technician performance, and digital inspection reports. Data migration assistance, live chat, email and phone support are included at every tier.
What is gated above the entry plan?
This is the part that determines what a shop actually pays.
- Basic excludes: unlimited digital vehicle inspections — Basic is limited to two DVI templates. It also excludes customisable workflow, purchase orders, time clock tracking, inventory management, MOTOR parts and labour, the ALLDATA integration and QuickBooks Online.
- Clever adds all of the above. Genius adds the coupons manager, automated estimate follow-ups, the Google Reviews manager, inactive work orders and MOTOR diagrams and procedures.
- Multi-Shop adds franchise and multi-location support, organisation-level reporting, dedicated account management, custom training and a custom implementation plan.
The practical consequence: a shop that wants unlimited digital inspections and QuickBooks sync is on Clever at $359, not Basic at $215.
What do Shopmonkey add-ons cost?
| Add-on | Cost |
|---|---|
| CRM Essentials — reviews, campaigns, online booking | $349 / $314 |
| Bookkeeping — managed, dedicated bookkeeper | $349 / $314 |
| Accounting — DIY, built in | $99 / $89 |
| Heavy Duty — Class 4–8 lookup, labour guides | Custom |
| Card reader hardware | $249 one-off + $10/mo ($249 one-off + $10/mo per device) |
CRM Essentials at $314 annually costs more than the Basic subscription it would attach to.
What are Shopmonkey's payment processing rates?
Shopmonkey is one of the few vendors in this category to publish them. Online payments are 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction on every plan. In-person rates improve with subscription tier: 2.7% plus $0.15 on Basic, 2.6% on Clever and 2.5% on Genius. Multi-Shop is quoted. Optional one-day payouts are included; instant payouts are quoted separately.
The tiered card-present rate is worth modelling. A shop running $60,000 a month in card-present volume pays $1,620 on Basic and $1,500 on Genius — a $120 monthly difference that reduces the effective cost of upgrading from $234 to $114.
What are Shopmonkey's strengths?
The most complete published tier chart in the category, which makes it the easiest major vendor to evaluate without a sales call. Genuinely comprehensive reporting from the entry tier — 30+ reports where competitors gate analytics higher. Broad integration coverage across parts, accounting and vehicle history. Two-way texting included at every tier, which is unusual: Tekmetric restricts it to its $409 plan and AutoLeap to its $309 plan. Strong installed base and brand recognition, with over 8,000 shops stated.
What are Shopmonkey's limitations?
It has the highest published entry price among the three major cloud vendors, at $215 against $179 for both Tekmetric and AutoLeap. User licences are metered — three on Basic, then $20 each — where Tekmetric includes unlimited users at every tier. For a shop with an owner, a service writer and four technicians all needing access, that is $60 a month before any add-on. Digital vehicle inspections, arguably the highest-return feature in modern shop software, are effectively capped on the entry plan. And the realistic configuration for a growing shop — Clever plus CRM Essentials — is $673 a month annually billed, over three times the headline price.
Who is Shopmonkey best for?
Established multi-bay shops that will use the full feature set and value breadth of integrations and reporting over the lowest monthly cost. It is a weaker fit for a small shop with several people needing logins, where metered users work against it, and for a price-sensitive single-bay operation.
What are the alternatives to Shopmonkey?
Tekmetric — $179 to $409, unlimited users, but two-way texting only at the top tier. AutoLeap — $179 to $409, plus an unpublished one-time setup fee, and a $99 AI receptionist add-on. Mitchell 1 Manager SE — does not publish pricing, sold through local representatives. Autograff ShopOS — $90 to $300, unlimited users, and connects the shop to fleet work. Fullbay — for heavy-duty and diesel shops, where light-duty systems do not fit. See the 2026 pricing index for the full worked comparison.
