Motive
What is Motive?
Motive is a fleet-operations platform that began in ELD compliance and has broadened into GPS tracking, driver safety with AI dashcams, and spend management such as fuel cards. It targets fleets that want compliance, safety and financial visibility in one platform, particularly in trucking and field-service operations.
How much does Motive cost?
Motive does not publish a rate card. Pricing is quoted per fleet and depends on vehicle count, hardware and which products — telematics, dashcams, spend management — a fleet includes. Third-party analyses put base telematics in the region of $25–40 per vehicle per month on a reported 12-month minimum; because those figures come from resellers and analyses rather than Motive, treat them as indicative only. As with the other telematics platforms, ask for a written quote that itemises hardware, software and the contract term before comparing it to an alternative.
Where does Motive fit in the fleet stack?
Motive is a telematics and operations layer. It does not schedule preventative maintenance or hold service history — that is fleet maintenance software such as Fleetio. And neither sees inside a third-party repair shop, which is the repair-visibility gap. See the fleet telematics hub for the category comparison.
Who is Motive best for?
Fleets — especially in trucking and field service — that want compliance, safety and spend management on one platform and are comfortable with a quote-led purchase. Fleets whose primary need is maintenance management or outside-shop repair visibility should look at those categories instead.
What are the alternatives to Motive?
Samsara and Geotab are the main telematics alternatives; none publishes pricing. For the maintenance layer, see Fleetio.
